Why Include Your Partner in Your Maternity Photos?

Why Include Your Partner in Your Maternity Photos?

When people think about maternity photography, it’s easy to imagine the focus being entirely on Mum and her growing bump.

But pregnancy is rarely a journey experienced alone.

It’s the beginning of a new chapter for your whole family.

That’s why I always encourage partners to be part of the story too.

This Is Your Story Together

Long before your baby arrives, you’ve already started becoming parents together.

You’ve imagined what they’ll look like.

Talked about names.

Wondered who they’ll grow up to be.

Dreamed about the life you’re about to build.

Those quiet moments of anticipation deserve to be remembered just as much as the day your baby is born.

Including your partner allows your photographs to tell the whole story, not just of pregnancy, but of the love that already surrounds your baby.

Your Baby Will One Day See These

One day, your child will look through these photographs.

They won’t just see Mum’s beautiful bump.

They’ll see the way Dad looked at Mum.

The excitement.

The tenderness.

The quiet smiles.

The gentle hand resting on the bump that held them so safely.

Those are moments they were part of, even before they were born.

What an incredible gift to leave them.

It Doesn’t Have to Feel Awkward

One of the biggest worries I hear from partners is:

“I’m not great in front of the camera.”

The good news is…

You don’t have to be.

My sessions aren’t about asking you to stand stiffly and smile at the camera.

They’re about creating space for genuine connection.

We’ll chat.

Walk together.

You’ll share a cuddle.

Laugh.

Hold hands.

Have fun.

Sometimes the most beautiful photographs happen when you forget the camera is even there.

Your Children Notice More Than You Think

If older siblings are joining your maternity session, including your partner becomes even more meaningful.

Children feel safe when they see the people they love connected.

The cuddles, the laughter and the little moments between Mum and Dad help create an environment where children naturally relax too.

As someone who studied child development before becoming a photographer, I know children experience the world through the relationships around them.

When parents feel connected and present, children often do too.

That’s why I gently guide families into moments rather than poses—because connection can’t be forced, but it can be encouraged.

These Photographs Become Part of Your Family History

Life changes quickly after a baby arrives.

The sleepless nights begin.

Tiny newborn cuddles become first birthdays, school drop-offs and family holidays.

It’s easy to forget what life felt like before your newest little person arrived.

These photographs preserve that chapter.

Not just the pregnancy.

But the excitement of waiting.

The love you already shared.

The family you were before you became one more.

One Day, You’ll Be Glad You Were In Them

Many partners agree to a maternity session because they know it’s important to Mum.

Years later, they’re often just as grateful they said yes.

Because these photographs become more than beautiful portraits.

They become a reminder of a season that passed far too quickly.

A reminder that before your baby ever took their first breath, they were already deeply loved by both of you.

And that’s a story worth remembering.
