A relaxed In-Home Family Photography Session In Cairns
One of my favourite things about being a Cairns in-home family photographer is documenting the little everyday moments that make up family life.
This relaxed in-home family photography session in Cairns was the perfect example of that. Instead of planning anything elaborate, this family simply spent the afternoon together at home with their three girls, making pizzas, playing in the yard, and heading down to their local park on their scooters.
This is always been what has led me to family photography. How often do you get to be in the photos of the fun moments that your family do regularly.
Making Pizzas Together | Cairns In-Home Family Photography
We started the session in the kitchen where the girls drew a photo each of their family to include in their album. A little reminder of how their family looked to them at this point in time, followed by helping prepare dinner. Their Sunday family tradition is Dad makes the pizzas and gives Mum the night off before heading to the local park. There was flour on the bench, plenty of giggles, and lots of enthusiasm as they added their favourite toppings to their homemade pizzas.
Moments like this are always so special to photograph. Kids naturally relax when they’re doing something familiar, and it gives everyone a chance to interact and enjoy being together rather than worrying about the camera.
The kitchen quickly filled with laughter as the girls proudly showed off their pizza creations before they went into the pizza oven. Let me tell you, I need to up my pizza game!
Backyard Play and Sister Giggles
After the pizzas were cooking, we stepped outside into the backyard where the girls spent some time playing together. They have their own climbing frame that their uncle made for them which they loved!
This is often when the most natural photos happen. Kids run, climb, laugh and invent games, and all I need to do is quietly document the moments as they unfold. They also loved showing me their huge lime tree!
There were lots of sister cuddles, bursts of laughter, and those playful little interactions that parents recognise as the heart of everyday family life.
Scooters to the Local Park
After dinner, the girls grabbed their scooters and we headed to the local park.
This part of the session felt like a mini family adventure. The girls scooted along the path while their parents walked alongside them, chatting and laughing together.
At the park they ran, played and climbed, with plenty of energy left after their busy afternoon at home. They loved shouting ‘Lizzy look at me!’
These kinds of small outings are perfect for family photography sessions because they capture the rhythm of your real life together and the moments you’ll want to look back on that share your family.
Ending the Day with Icy Poles
After our park adventure, we headed back home where the girls cooled down with icy poles in the backyard.
Sticky hands, colourful tongues and lots of giggles made for the perfect relaxed ending to the session.
These are the kinds of moments families often forget to photograph themselves, or one parent isn’t in the photos, but they’re exactly the memories children will love looking back on years from now.
Why I Love In-Home Family Photography
In-home sessions allow families to simply be themselves. There’s no pressure to pose or perform, just time spent together doing the things you already love.
Whether it’s cooking dinner, playing in the yard, going for a walk to the park or sharing icy poles on a warm afternoon, these everyday moments are what make your family story unique.
