Having professional photos taken at a time in your life when you’re probably at your most tired and vulnerable can be hard, especially a newborn photoshoot after a c-section.
Having never had a c-section personally for my own three births, I don’t have first hand understanding of how it feels, however I have photographed many Mothers following a c-section and am always guided by them and how they feel.
While I don’t like to share lots of personal stories from my clients as they are very private, I do think it’s important for people to be able to see what can be possible for your newborn photos when a c-section is involved.
I constantly ask my client how she is feeling and try to keep movement to a minimum, making the most of one or two spaces for variety without lots of getting up and down.
I always think of my newborn photoshoots like a Saturday morning at home with your new baby. We get the essential photos with everyone looking and smiling at the camera but I also guide people into shots that replicate just being at home with your baby. I watch for things that happen naturally from my guidance.
Some families are naturally very interactive and others are more reserved. There is no right or wrong way to be and I adjust my approach accordingly. This is how your gallery becomes personalised to you.
Here, we are welcoming gorgeous baby Henley. Who was very happy in his Mummy’s tummy and came along well past his due date. I loved spending my time with their family (and Fionas Mum who had come along to assist with the transition into parenthood – she is also a retired midwife which is a double bonus for them!)
They are the perfect example how you can be true to yourself with your style and don’t have to be overly dressed up, and it shows in their photos because they are lovely and relaxed. I can already tell they are going to be amazing parents and Lewis really showed how much he cared about his wife during our time together.
Please join me in welcoming baby Henley with a selection of my favourite photos from our time together at their home in Whitfield, Cairns.
