I honestly can’t think of a better way to have family photos than a family photoshoot at Kanimbla skate park!
Kristina has had many photoshoots with me over the years, starting when her youngest was a baby. When she contacted me this year to book, I asked what her and the kids love to do together and she said they love going on their bikes/scooters to the skate park.
I think we all know that when we head out for fun days out with our children, there is usually one person who takes the photos and is never in them. What I LOVE about activity sessions, is that you can see just how happy your children are to spend time with you, which you normally don’t see in the moment – because lets face it, days out with kids can be chaotic.
Someone falls down, someone forgets their shoes, and then you forget to pack lunch! It can feel so busy that we don’t notice the little things of how we light our children’s days, just by doing the little things. Chasing them on their bikes or hopping on the back of their scooter.
When booking, Kristina also mentioned that it was both hers, and her youngest girls birthday that month so I suggested she could also bring along a cake or cupcakes and have everyone sing Happy Birthday too. I love a cake smash, but nothing beats just sitting down at the skate park with your kids in their element just tucking into yummy cake. It’s so much more engaging for the kids too, and a lovely way to calm things down a bit after lots of bike riding and scooting.
(Just to add, it’s not a trip to the skate park without a few cuts and scrapes. Kristina arrived super early to our photoshoot – lets celebrate that win for her because she has FOUR KIDS – and while they were playing and waiting for me to arrive at our scheduled time, there were plenty of falls. I wanted to pop that in there because as a parent myself, I see the final photos and presume everything was stress free and it would never be like that for my own family.)
When families book me for activity sessions, some want to get straight into the activity and aren’t fussed about the more formal photos, and others do still like to get a few traditional photos too. Kristina loves to still get some traditional photos too, so we did those first and then we played.
The advantage of an activity session is we started this at 10am. Kids are ALWAYS happier in the morning and while this isn’t ‘perfect’, it still totally works. We just headed to the shade for the more traditional photos.
