When families come together across distances, the moments are truly priceless. Recently, I had the joy of photographing a beautiful three-generation family enjoying their holiday at an AirBnb in Kewarra Beach, Cairns. Some had travelled from across Australia, and one family even came all the way from the United States.
They wanted exactly what I love to capture most. Natural, relaxed family photography that reflects genuine connection, laughter, and the joy of being together.
A Tropical Setting for Family Memories
Kewarra Beach is one of Cairns’ hidden gems. With palm-fringed coastlines, tropical gardens, and plenty of space to relax, it’s the perfect place for families to slow down and reconnect. Their AirBnb had a lovely pool which the families wanted to include in their session. Our plan was: the more traditional family photos to start at the house, a play on the beach and then back to the house to play in the pool. The kids splashed and played, grandparents joined in the laughter, and everyone simply enjoyed the warmth of the tropics.
Instead of stiff, posed portraits, we focused on letting the day unfold naturally. I’m a big believer in letting kids be kids. Whether that’s during the traditional part of the session or letting play happen naturally.
