It’s the most common question I get asked when it comes to booking maternity photos. “When is the best time to get maternity photos?”
So often in fact, that I thought I would write a blog post on it, so that it can help you out with booking a maternity photographer.
So, you’re finally pregnant. If you’re anything like me, you want to be super organised when it comes to planning things for your baby and booking maternity photos is one thing on your list! But when should you get them?
I usually recommend my Mums-To-Be that between 28-34 weeks is a great time. Your growing bump is usually a good size now that it photographs well and you haven’t reached the really uncomfortable final stage yet. You also run less of a risk that if you go into labour early, you will miss out on maternity photos altogether.
This timeframe is obviously just a guide. Your appointments with your midwife will be more regular by then, and they might be able to advise you if they think you need to get them done sooner (For example, if you are expecting twins). I have even photographed expectant Mums the day before the birth, so please don’t be put off by the recommended timeframe.
So when should you book in?
The sooner you book in the better. Not only does this ensure I have availability, but allows you to include the cost into your budget. Having a baby can be an expensive time, so the more you can plan the better. However, if you are close to your due date and have only just decided to have maternity photos, don’t be put off! I have photographed Mums to be previously who have gone into labour the following day!
I’d love to book now!
What can I expect from my maternity session in my home?
I photograph my maternity sessions in the comfort of your home. No need to worry about rescheduling due to weather (or dealing with the heat and humidity of Cairns!), having to walk far if you’re feeling uncomfortable, dragging any excited siblings out at witching hour and we can combine a natural lifestyle approach with a few more posed intimate maternity portraits if you like. The session takes place during the day when everyone feels fresh and I have white backdrops I can bring if required.
I hope this helps you with the best time to get maternity photos, and if you’re local to Cairns, I’d love to see you in your home for your maternity session!
