The Best Babymoon Resorts in Cairns, Palm Cove and Port Douglas

Planning a babymoon is wonderfully different from planning any other holiday.

You’re not trying to squeeze in every attraction or tick off an endless sightseeing list. Instead, you’re looking for somewhere that encourages you to slow down, sleep in, enjoy long breakfasts and spend quality time together before your little one arrives.

One of the questions I see time and time again is:

“Where should we stay for our babymoon in Cairns?”

The answer depends on the kind of holiday you’re hoping for.

Whether you’re dreaming of beachfront luxury, peaceful mornings by the pool or a tropical escape surrounded by palm trees, Tropical North Queensland has plenty of beautiful options.

If you’re still deciding whether Cairns is the right destination for your babymoon, I’d recommend reading my Ultimate Cairns Babymoon Guide, where I share everything from the best time to visit to relaxing activities and maternity photography ideas.

Palm Cove – Perfect for couples who want to completely switch off

If I were planning my own babymoon, Palm Cove would probably be my first choice.

Everything feels slower here.

The palm-lined esplanade is beautiful to wander along, there are wonderful cafés and restaurants within walking distance, luxurious spas and a gorgeous beach where you can simply sit together and listen to the waves.

Rather than spending your holiday driving from place to place, you can arrive, unpack and simply enjoy being there.

Palm Cove is ideal if you’re looking for:

  • Luxury resorts
  • Beachfront accommodation
  • Day spas
  • Romantic dinners
  • Morning beach walks
  • Minimal driving

It also happens to be one of my favourite locations for maternity photography. The towering palms and soft beach create a timeless backdrop that’s beautiful all year round.

Port Douglas – For couples wanting a luxury tropical escape

Port Douglas feels like a destination in itself.

Many couples choose it because it offers a relaxed atmosphere while still having plenty to see and do. There are beautiful restaurants, boutique shopping, Four Mile Beach and easy access to the surrounding rainforest and reef experiences.

It’s perfect if you’d like to combine relaxation with a little gentle exploring.

Choose Port Douglas if you love:

  • Boutique accommodation
  • Luxury resorts
  • Excellent restaurants
  • Resort pools
  • Slow afternoons
  • Beautiful tropical scenery

If you’re staying here, I also photograph maternity sessions in and around Port Douglas, making it easy to capture this special chapter while you’re already on holiday.

The Cairns Northern Beaches – Relaxed without the crowds

The Northern Beaches, including Trinity Beach, Clifton Beach and Kewarra Beach, are a wonderful choice if you’d like something quieter than the city while still being close to everything.

Many holiday apartments and resorts sit just moments from the beach, making it easy to enjoy morning walks before breakfast or peaceful evenings watching the sunset.

This area suits couples who enjoy a slower pace and don’t mind hiring a car to explore nearby cafés and restaurants.

You’ll love the Northern Beaches if you’re looking for:

  • Quiet beaches
  • Holiday apartments
  • Beachfront accommodation
  • Relaxed atmosphere
  • Easy access to Palm Cove and Cairns

Many of my local maternity sessions take place along these beaches because they’re peaceful, spacious and beautifully tropical.

Cairns City – Convenient and central

If you’d like everything within easy reach, Cairns City is a great option.

You’ll have access to restaurants, cafés, the Esplanade Lagoon, markets and many tour departures.

It’s especially convenient if you’re not planning to hire a car.

While the city itself has a busier feel than Palm Cove or Port Douglas, it’s a fantastic base if you’d like to explore several different parts of the region during your stay.

Should you choose a resort or an apartment?

Both can work beautifully for a babymoon.

A resort might suit you if you picture yourself:

  • Booking a spa treatment
  • Ordering room service
  • Spending entire afternoons by the pool
  • Enjoying mocktails beside the beach
  • Walking straight to dinner

An apartment may be perfect if you would like:

  • A kitchen
  • More space
  • Laundry facilities
  • Flexible meal times
  • A longer stay

There’s no right answer, only what feels most relaxing for you.

Features worth looking for when booking

Not every accommodation is equally suited to a babymoon.

When comparing options, I’d recommend looking for:

  • Comfortable beds
  • Swimming pool
  • Air conditioning
  • Lift access
  • On-site or close by restaurants
  • Spa facilities
  • Easy parking
  • Walking distance to cafés
  • Quiet surroundings
  • Beach access

Sometimes these practical features make a much bigger difference than whether a hotel has five stars.

A little luxury goes a long way

Your babymoon may be one of the last opportunities you’ll have to completely prioritise yourselves before your baby arrives.

If your budget allows, consider upgrading to the nicer room.

Book the massage.

Order dessert.

Sleep in.

Watch the sunrise together.

These are often the memories people treasure most.

Why your accommodation can become part of your maternity story

One thing many couples don’t realise is that your accommodation can become the backdrop to some incredibly meaningful maternity photographs.

Beautiful balconies overlooking the ocean.

Palm-filled resort gardens.

A quiet walk along the beach outside your hotel.

Relaxing together beside the pool.

Some of the most natural photographs happen when couples simply enjoy the place they’ve chosen to celebrate this season of life.

If you’d prefer complete privacy, we can even create beautiful maternity photographs at your accommodation before heading down to the beach.

Planning your tropical babymoon

Wherever you choose to stay, remember that your babymoon isn’t about seeing everything.

It’s about celebrating this season of your lives.

Sleep a little longer.

Talk a little more.

Hold hands.

Dream about the little person you’re about to meet.

If you’re travelling to Tropical North Queensland, I’d also recommend reading my Ultimate Cairns Babymoon Guide, where you’ll find local recommendations on things to do, when to visit and how to plan the perfect relaxing escape.

And if you’d love to remember your babymoon forever, I’d be honoured to photograph this chapter for you. My relaxed maternity sessions are designed to feel like an extension of your holiday, unhurried, natural and focused on the connection between you both before your family grows.
