One of my favourite locations for maternity sessions in Cairns is the beach. I love the feeling of calm that matches the anticipation of meeting your baby soon. This lovely couple chose to celebrate their first pregnancy with a relaxed beach maternity photoshoot, and it was the perfect setting to capture their love and excitement before their little one arrives.

There are rocks to sit on and lean against and offer lovely compositional aspects, views of tropical islands and minimal chance of coming across snakes like you might in long grass!!
A Beautiful Afternoon with First-Time Parents-to-Be
Yoko and Jordan were so calm and connected, truly soaking in the moment together. It’s always a privilege to photograph a pregnancy journey, especially the first time, there’s such an incredible mix of love, wonder, and excitement for what’s ahead. (It’s also a lot calmer than when you add in excited siblings!)
We started our session just before sunset when the light was soft and golden and the hot day was starting to cool down. What I love so much about this beach is it’s a locals beach so offers privacy for couples.

•Timing is everything: Late afternoon (about an hour before sunset) offers the most flattering, golden light.
•Outfits: Choose neutral tones or soft pastels — they photograph beautifully against the natural beach colours. Alternatively, if you prefer contrast, darker colours also look great. Flowy dresses or linen shirts work perfectly. Just remember to work within your own style and what you feel comfortable and yourself in. •Stay comfortable: Bring water, a towel, and something easy to change into if you’d like to get your feet (or even your dress!) a little sandy and wet.
•Connection over posing: I’ll gently guide you, but my focus is always on capturing your genuine connection and emotions.
