This was Sophie and Tarren’s sixth session with me! They have had an in home newborn session for each of their three children, plus a cake smash for Ted, a cake smash for Joey and a maternity session.
Here is Joeys in home session.
Since their first photoshoot when Ted was a newborn, Sophie and I have become good friends, and it’s been so lovely photographing their family as it has grown.
They started in a little unit in Cairns (which is reassuring for anyone who thinks their home is too small for an in-home session), and now own a beautiful Queenslander in the Cairns area. (See the end of the post for a few ‘through the years’ photos)
I think anyone who has small children knows, the more you have, the more chaotic it feels. Having three young children myself, I know this feeling all too well so it all goes over my head during sessions in all honesty.
There are lots of emotions that come with a new baby, especially when someone wants to take photos of those moments. While Ted was happy to snuggle his sister on the day, Joey really wasn’t feeling like it, so we had to improvise with a few flying aeroplanes over her cot to get them in a photo together!
This is what I love about in home newborn sessions. Children are in their safe space so they can truly be themselves, and I work around whatever gets thrown at me! (Not literally, thankfully!) It also means no bags have to be packed, no-one needs to leave the home, Mum doesn’t have to stress about stopping to feed on the way or having to wait for a sleep once the shoot is all finished. (You don’t even need to tidy your house! I just work around it)
Not only that, if you ever move out of your home, it’s such a lovely way to share the memories with your children once they are grown and begin to show an interest of where it all began. Even if you don’t move, rooms get redecorated as children mature, and it’s amazing how quickly their little legs start to reach the end of the cot!
I could talk all day about why I love in home newborn sessions, but I’m excited to share The Olufson’s session with you! Here are my favourites:
As promised, here is a photo from each of their previous sessions with me:
