A relaxed, in home newborn session | Sophie, Tarren and Ted

In home newborn sessions will always have my heart. We all know, as new parents, that sometimes getting a shower in the morning can be a huge achievement, so leaving the house can be out of the question!

The one place you make the majority of your memories is at your home. It’s usually the place you witness that first smile, the place you hear that sweet sound of your baby’s giggle, first baths, first solids, the first time they crawl, first wobbly little baby steps, the first time they ride their bike without stabilisers, the first time you dress them in their first school uniform and eventually the last – as they take their first steps into being independent. They say a Mother holds their children’s hands for a while, but their hearts forever, but your house will always be their home. Even once your children have grown and start building their own home, your house will always be the place they return. Even if it is to unload their wash baskets for you to do for them 😉

So what better place to have your newborn session. In addition to those baby photo’s, I just love the detail shots that make up a beautiful album. Their nursery, sweet baby toes, the bassinet they spend just a few short weeks in before it becomes outgrown.

Yesterday, I met with the Olufson family. Tarren, Sophie and their beautiful baby boy Ted. As a Nurse at Cairns Base hospital, Sophie is all too used to caring for others. It was such a joy to step back and watch her Husband, and her own Mum, also a nurse, take care of her while she nursed her tiny baby. As you will see from the pictures, you would never have known Ted was born just two weeks ago. Despite the usual lack of sleep which comes from caring for a newborn, Sophie looked amazing. (Yes Tarren, you did too!!)

Having only met the family of three that morning, they immediately felt like friends. They were welcoming and kind (and Sophie’s lovely Mum was chief tea maker). It’s such a nice feeling just clicking with people so soon. Especially when you are entering such a precious time in someone’s life, with a camera too. Not always the most comfortable thing when you are getting to know your new baby.

I loved the morning I spent with them, and I hope you all can enjoy these pictures and join me in congratulating Tarren & Sophie and welcoming Ted to this wonderful life xx
