What To Expect From Your Newborn At Your Newborn Session
When it comes to babies, mostly everything is unpredictable. But having an idea of what to expect from your newborn at your newborn session will help enable you to relax slightly.
While all babies are different, they do generally follow particular milestones at each age, which is great as a guide.
Your newborn session will take place within the first two weeks of your baby’s life. Usually after day 5, to give chance for your milk to come in and have a few days to get to know eachother.
While newborns aren’t ‘doing’ a lot besides feeding often and sleeping, it’s still good as a new mum to know this. When you are getting little sleep, the last thing you want to do is feel as though you should be apologising for your baby doing what she is meant to.
This is why you need to allow a little longer for your newborn session than any other session. All of my sessions are led by baby, so whenever she needs to feed (or have a cuddle with Mummy) we stop. Some baby’s will feed for just a few minutes, others might need longer. It varies and there is honestly no rush. If you would like to have photos of you bottle or breastfeeding your baby, I always offer on the day.
Your newborn will be very sleepy at this stage, which is great! If there are siblings involved, I may suggest wrapping your baby so they can be handed to various family members for cuddles without being disturbed. There will also be plenty of opportunity for photos of them unwrapped so we can see those teeny fingers and toes.
Some newborns can be unsettled. There are many reasons for this, and if your newborn happens to really not be happy on the day, then of course we will reschedule. It happens 😊
I hope this helps you understand what to expect from your newborn at your newborn session.
