Pregnancy can bring along lots of emotions, challenges and excitement. Your body is changing, you may be engulfed in fear and so many other emotions. So, what are the benefits of a maternity photoshoot?
- Build trust with your photographer before your newborn photoshoot. I wanted to put this one first because I would say it isn’t the most obvious one, but it is the most important in my opinion. Having a baby can be a really emotional time. Not being in control of situations, feeling extremely protective of your pending baby, previous miscarriage, first pregnancy nerves. Often times, when you have your newborn photoshoot, your photographer can be one of the first people to meet and hold your new baby. This can feel very overwhelming for many new parents. Having a maternity photoshoot can help you build a rapport with the photographer, see if you trust them, and whether you would feel comfortable passing your new baby to them and welcoming them in to a very vulnerable and new time of your life as a new family.
2. Empowering your changing body. For some pregnant Mums, pregnancy is the best they’ve ever felt about their body. For others, they don’t feel comfortable with the changes and often feel overwhelmed, scared, sick, uncomfortable and many other things. Having a maternity photoshoot can help you feel empowered. Through careful but natural posing to help you feel your best, you can take pride in the changes happening to your body and look back with fondness.
3. Celebrate the upcoming addition to your family. How are your other children feeling about a new baby coming? This is a lovely time to share the excitement with them, and can also introduce them to the photographer too. In my humble opinion, you can never have too many photos of important milestones for your family and a maternity photoshoot is a wonderful way to celebrate.
4. The perfect excuse for a bit of glam! Pregnancy may not always have us feeling our best. Maybe you need an excuse to get a bit dressed up, do your hair and make up and feel a bit special for a moment. You can borrow a dress from my client wardrobe or grab yourself something new (or from your current collection). Some of my maternity clients like to have their make up done professionally and others feel more comfortable doing it themselves. Either way, take a little time out and enjoy feeling pampered.
5. Quality time with your partner. Sometimes when we get lost in motherhood, we forget to celebrate what we’ve accomplished with our partner. Pregnancy photos can be the perfect excuse to spend a bit of time together, reflect on how far you’ve come together and celebrate what’s to come. Idk this is your first baby, life is about to change for you both and what a lovely reason to just spend some quiet time together before you welcome your new baby.
That is just five of what I believe are the benefits of a maternity photoshoot, but there are many more suited to each couple. Whether you like natural and playful, glamorous or more traditional, there is a style of pregnancy photo for you.
