I bet you thought you’d never see the words relaxed in home family photoshoot with two boys all in the same sentence?!
I don’t like to stereotype, but I don’t meet many mums of boys who say they love to sit and colour for hours on end like Mums of girls tell me 😉
The advantages of having your family photoshoot at your home in Cairns are – no bags to pack, no wrestling with children to get them out of the door, no need to dress up (can I get a hallelujah!!), no need to sweat profusely in the never ending humidity, no need to reschedule 100 times when wet season never seems to end and everyone can just BE THEMSELVES!
This was the first thing that Jodie and Geoff said to me when I arrived at their house. “It was so nice not to have to force the boys into button ups”.
I really love to emphasise that everyone can just be themselves when they book with me. When I title this post with relaxed, that doesn’t mean we all sit quietly and do as we are told. What relaxed DOES mean with me, is that no-one needs to put pressure on themselves to be something they aren’t. If your children are loud and boisterous, we work with it (and we want to remember our children for who they are right?!). If they are quiet and timid, that’s what we capture.
It really is important to me that the families who book with me feel relaxed, because that is what brings out genuine smiles. Everything I do is child led. We get the job done, but in a way that works for your family.
One thing that concerns families about in home sessions is that their home isn’t light enough. Jodie did send me photos of her house prior to their session, however, the day of their shoot was really overcast (and it did rain towards the end). I used flash for a lot of their session, which I wanted to mention, because when I ran a poll on my instagram, most people thought it was natural light. Another thing I wanted to mention was, we also used their LAUNDRY for some of these photos!
In-Home photoshoots really don’t need to be about what your home looks like despite the title. As you’ll see in the photos, we get the more traditional shots somewhere with a more neutral background where we can, and then we hit the personalities! Including Thor bed sheets! Personally, I love capturing phases that children go through more than the neutrals (yes I said it) because those phases go so fast. One minute they’re dressing like Elsa to go camping, and then they’re calling you bro!
I hope you love Jodie and Geoffs photos as much as I do!
