Katia and Jack welcomed me this week for their newborn photoshoot at home in redlynch.
Katia had kindly been recommended me by a couple of her friends who had had newborn photos taken with me and not long after she welcomed her first baby, she sent me an email that she’d love to book.
When I arrived at their home, they were just finishing off getting ready which gave me the perfect opportunity to play with their two dogs and let them get used to me. They are a lot like people in a way, and having a stranger arrive in their home and get out a strange object can make them feel a little uneasy so I gave them chance to just have some pats from me and let them sniff my camera.
Although I give families an extensive welcome guide and information on how my photoshoots run before they even book with me, we still have a chat upon meeting about what they can expect from me.
It can be a lot welcoming someone in to your home when you’re exhausted, possibly in pain or discomfort and unsure of what to expect.
Anything can change between booking me for your newborn photoshoot and the day of the shoot.
After settling little Evie, we got to work.
As you can see from their photos, we spent some time in their main living area, Evie’s beautiful little bedroom and then the classic outside the home shot.
This is one of my favourites when a home allows. I always think of it like when the Royal Family announce the arrival of a new royal baby.
I also have a photo of myself as a baby outside the home I was brought to, which I love, because I wasn’t raised in this home so it’s nice to be able to picture the first place I lived, the street, the front door. These things are all a part of our story. Even if they are just a photo outside the front door initially.
When it comes to newborn photoshoots at home, I always say it can include as much or as little of your home as you like. Everyone lives in different style and size homes. I adjust everything accordingly to ensure natural newborn photos.
If you don’t have a nursery set up, we don’t use it. If there isn’t really a space outside of your home, we don’t use it. Everything is personalised to your home and lifestyle.
