Since I started my business in 2017, I ran them periodically, mostly at Christmas time. However, last year I started organising monthly minis. They have been such a hit! What a great way to update your family photos, in a fast and fun way! They are great for families who only want a handful of photos (with the option to purchase more if there are any of course!) They may not continue as monthly minis, but I have definitely added them as a more regular aspect to my business. These 15 minute sessions on the beach are perfect for a handful of maternity photos, update your family photos, for families with teens who don’t feel a full session is for them, and don’t want to have too much input in the location or types of photos they receive. They use my usual play based style and are great if you are on a budget.
I still offer tips for what to wear and how to have a successful session (because of the nature of the sessions, the more prepared you are the better your photos will be!). You still get my same energy to bring out those natural smiles and giggles, and I ALWAYS grab those meaningful cuddly shots if I can.
So what is a mini session?
My mini sessions are 15 minute sessions run back to back (usually 4-6 clients booked one after the other with 15 minutes per family). The location is chosen by me, and is usually somewhere that can give me consistent light throughout the session and a few different natural aspects to add as much variety for you as possible in a short amount of time. It will usually include something that shows you where you are (palm trees, views of an island, rocks to climb/sit/play on) and is somewhere you can find me easily, as I am unable to meet you at your car. My regular spot has a free car park and public toilets which is a huge must if you are bringing young children in my opinion.
I run via a basic workflow. A few different family set ups for you to choose from, individual shots of each child, each parent with their child/children and then a few playful shots. I basically just keep going for the entire 15 minutes to get you as many photos to choose from as possible.
What is the difference between a mini session and a full session?
My full sessions are activity based. They are tailored to the family booking around what the enjoy doing together. Whether that’s swimming in the pool, going fishing, playing on the beach, baking at home, going to the zoo, having an ice cream date. The world is your oyster there. You can choose your location, if you’ve seen any specific photos that you love you can let me know if you’d like something similar and the session is longer. Generally, the longer you spend with me, the more natural your photos will be because there is time to really feel comfortable with me and if children feel overwhelmed, there is more chance to give them space to just play in between. It’s more like quality time together with me photographing.
Mini sessions are great if you have less time, want to update your family photos at a lower cost and aren’t too fussed with the location and just want a more traditional (but natural and playful) feel to your photos.
A full session is a more storytelling aspect for your family and you will have a wonderful gallery to tell you of our time together making memories (perfect for an album) and a mini session is a great way to add to your walls at home or update your profile photo, send to family and friends or just remember a particular moment in your lives.
Both types of session you receive black and white copies of the images you purchase.
How do I book a mini session?
The best way to stay up to date with when mini session dates are released is via the waitlist. This is also the only way you can book. I release the date via email and also send the booking link via email. They always sell out fast so you need to be ready when the email lands in your inbox! (Always check your junk folder after you sign up)
There will be a set fee for the session and it will include a certain number of images (3-5 usually). When you receive your viewing gallery a week after your session, you will have the option to choose your included images, and purchase more if you would like.

Of course it depends on the age of your children, how easily everyone warms up to me etc, but this gives you a great idea of the types of images you typically receive during a mini session.

These mini sessions are fast and fun (and involve a lot of squealing from me to bring the energy, so beware!!)
As you can see from the examples, if things go well, you can still receive plenty of photos of your family together. They are suitable for families of all ages, but do not include extended family and are not suitable for babies younger than 6 months.
