Today I’m so excited to share Renee and Matt’s in-home newborn photoshoot with TWO girls!
I was first introduced to these guys through family members of theirs years ago, and as a result I have now photographed two maternity sessions, family sessions and now their second newborn session.
To be trusted to capture not just one, but many milestones in a family’s life, is never one I take for granted. Especially when pregnancy and welcoming a new baby to the family can be such a vulnerable time.
When booked in advance, I schedule my newborn sessions for around a week to ten days after the due date. It’s amazing how quickly newborns change, and this gives everyone time to settle in at home, mums milk to come in and have baby still have all those precious newborn features.
Also eagerly awaiting the new arrival was one VERY excited big sister. She has been very in tune with the pregnancy throughout, and she even predicted the birth date!
Watching her with her new little sister was the best. You can honestly never predict how siblings are going to be during their newborn photoshoot. Sometimes they love being round the baby until the photoshoot, and sometimes they hate being around the baby until the photoshoot. But Miki girl loved all the cuddles. She was so patient when she wasn’t required for photos and played happily next to us, and was happy giving lots of cuddles and kisses when it was her turn. (New trick we learnt. Just get out old baby toys from the older sibling and they are so excited to see their old toys they play PERFECTLY!!)
I love to combine naturally posed photos with playtime in my photoshoots. Everything I do is baby or child led, so even the naturally posed part of the session is guided by how the newborn or sibling is going. Then we play. They had a beautiful playroom set up and I really love to capture moments that may happen everyday, that are fond memories, but parents may not have photos of. (Especially if one parent is always the one taking the photos).
Here are my favourites from their session.
