How many images to put in a professional photo album

Today I thought I would talk quickly about how many images to put in a professional photo album.

I recommend keeping the design clean and simple. This doesn’t mean you can’t have more than one photo per page, but once you add too many, the page gets cluttered and it’s hard to see the wood through the trees so to speak.

Having one hero image, with a few detail shots on a spread looks great. It ties the ‘story’ together nicely.

So how many images total would I recommend in an album?

10 2-page spreads (my minimum book): 30-40 images

11-18 2-page spreads: 40-60 images

19-25 2-pages spreads: 60-80 images

26-32 2-page spreads: 80-100 images

33-40 2-page spreads: 100-150 images

So what does this mean?

Generally, if you want to order a professional album for either your maternity or newborn session by themselves, you can nicely place all the images from your session in my base album (10 x 2 page spreads – so 20 pages). If you want to combine your maternity and newborn session within the same album, the second option would suit you and if you want to include your baby’s entire first year (maternity, newborn, sitter and first birthday sessions) into an album, then you’d be looking at the 4th or 5th option.

Why order a professional photo album?

I think it’s going to be a given that of course, quality is second to none with a professional album. The albums I offer come with a lifetime guarantee because they are that sure about the quality of their products. Their printers ensure the colours of the images are correct, the paper quality is of the highest standard etc. But one of the main reasons my clients order albums through me is TIME. None of us have enough hours in the day, do we? Printing our photos goes on the to do list with all the best intentions, but babies grow and change quickly. On a day to day basis we are just trying to keep up. Before we know it, they are walking and those photos are still stuck somewhere on a USB not being enjoyed.

My clients know that I will design their album beautifully, help them with cover options if needs be and even deliver it straight to their door so they don’t even need to leave the house! (Because lets face it, anyone with a newborn is making the most of all those Pajama days as much as they can!)

I know I say it all the time, but there really is nothing like holding an album in your hands. Flicking through the pages. Remembering those tiny fingers that wrapped around yours. Those little legs with their jerky movements. Those memories are even better when that baby can climb onto your lap and look at them with you 🙂
