Today I am sharing Carla and Jacobs in home newborn session.
In Home Newborn sessions are one of my absolute favourites. When Carla contacted me to book her newborn photoshoot and asked if she could do hers at her home, it was a big yes from me!
I like to think no matter where my families choose to have their photoshoot, that I provide a relaxed experience. However, there really is something lovely about seeing a family in their home environment after they have just had a new baby.
Carla had had an emergency c-section, so being able to stay in the comfort of her home was really important to her as she was in her recovery stage. (Jacob was also recovering from a footy injury – so movement was also an issue for him)
Carla was so lucky to have her two sisters and her Mum visiting her in Cairns, and she asked me if I would mind them having a few photos as part of her session. It’s really important to me that the families I work with have any of their close loved ones in their photos. Whether that’s family members or close friends. It really does take a village to raise a child and support new parents, and having those special photos to look back on in years to come helps keep the memories alive.
They also have two gorgeous dogs (who I wanted to kidnap!), who were involved in the shoot. Carla did mention they were quite shy and may not want to be involved, but honestly, they became the stars and centre of attention!
Carla lives close to me in Smithfield, so it was just a short drive for me to go to their home.
When I arrived, I was greeted by lots of excited family members snuggling a sleeping baby Evie! I would never known Evie was such a fresh little newborn because Carla looked amazing and was full of energy! She is also such a natural Mummy.
I am always baby led with my work, and I worked around how little Evie was doing when it came to their family photos. When she needed to feed, I got feeding photos, when she slept, I took advantage of getting the shots of her in her cot, when she needed cuddles, I did the cuddly shots. While I never want my families to feel rushed, I really believe efficiency is so important when it comes to very tired parents and we all know how unpredictable babies and children are.
I also use the in-between moments to photograph baby’s nursery if it is set up and ready. While these photos are not the types of photos you are going to hang on your walls, I know they are the ones families will look at when their baby’s have grown and their bedrooms have changed with fond memories.
It was really hard to choose my favourites from their session because there were so many. But here are a selection from Carla and Jacobs in-home family session
Welcome baby Evie, you are already so loved!
