Today I am sharing with you a newborn photoshoot in Cairns with a toddler.
I first met Sharnii and Brandon around 5 years ago when I photographed their engagement, followed by their wedding.
Since then, I have photographed their first daughters maternity and newborn session, Mothers Day photoshoot, family photoshoots and then their latest maternity session.
Being asked to capture so many private and vulnerable moments in someone’s life is such a privilege. Even more so when it’s every single one. They have placed so much trust in me over the years to capture moments that they will never get back.
The most recent, and what I am sharing with you today, is the newborn photoshoot for their second daughter, Kiara. I was invited in to their home to capture them with baby Kiara and very excited big sister Ruby. Ruby was very excited to give her new sister lots of kisses and cuddles.
Ruby, who was just shy of turning two during their photoshoot, did so well considering her age. Many people worry about having a newborn photoshoot with a toddler because of how short their attention span is. It is also an age where they start to challenge things being asked of them. All completely natural and to be expected.
I try to keep things as engaging as possible for toddlers, and give them breaks when they need. While I have a workflow that I follow to make sure we get all the photos required, it is all baby or child led. No-one is forced or bribed. The great thing about having a newborn photoshoot in your home, is there are plenty of snacks on hand!
During their photoshoot, Ruby even had chance to have a ham and cheese sandwich, which Brandon gets brownie points for, as he prepared it before I arrived!
I’m so excited to share Sharnii and Brandons photos today. Their family feel like an extension of my own family at this point. Sharing their photos from ‘where they started’ to now just proves how fast time goes. It feels like yesterday we were in a field, meeting for the first time to photograph ands celebrate their engagement, and now here we are.
Two beautiful little girls to love and nurture for the rest of their lives xx
