I ummed and ahhed about whether to title this post ‘a newborn photoshoot in a unit with next to no natural light’ in case it came across as a negative thing.
However, I always get great feedback from these types of posts from people considering where to have their newborn photoshoot and whether their home is ‘good enough’.
One worry from families is that their home may be too dark, and another worry is often the size of their home.
Families come in all different shapes and sizes and so do homes. I always stress to people that it isn’t their job to have an abundance of light available or a home like a studio. It’s MY job to create wonderful natural portraits with what is available.
Whether you live in a unit or a large house, you deserve beautiful photos.
So today I’m happy to share with you, Mariah and Declan’s newborn photoshoot in their unit, on an overcast day, with next to no natural light. (Hint: I brought my own sunshine in the form of flash)
While I always get families to send me photos of their home prior to their photoshoot, I always bring flash with me now just in case. Living in the wet tropics, we are often blessed with extremely overcast and dark days with rain. A home that may be abundant with natural light on a sunny day, may not have sufficient light for a photoshoot when the sun is behind clouds.
