When Natalie contacted me about her ideas for their family photoshoot, she shared with me that she’d like to follow the theme ‘fun fair’. Today I’m sharing with you a fun fair themed family photoshoot in Cairns.
Natalie and I first worked together during a set of mini sessions I ran the previous year (you can join the waitlist for my regular mini sessions here). She expressed to me that she’d had so much fun that she knew she’d return the following year for a more personalised full family photoshoot with me.
She told me her family love going to the fair, but had missed it this year due to sickness and they regularly go to Just Devine Gelato, just back from the esplanade in Cairns. Due to missing the fair, she’d love to swing by the Ferris wheel on Cairns esplanade and have an ice cream date as part of their shoot. Sounds like great fun! Everyone loves ice cream!
Now, usually I don’t take families to busy locations for a number of reasons. Families feeling self conscious around lots of people who usually like to watch family photoshoots happening, trying to dodge getting other people in the photos and feeling like you may be interrupting the public enjoying their own family time to name a few. However, I can make it work if that’s what families want to do 😊
The weather has been beautiful here in Cairns, so the esplanade was bustling with locals and tourists enjoying quality time together. Swimming in the lagoon, playing ball on the grass, having picnics. Considering though, we managed well!
We finished up at Just Devine Gelato. There were a few people there, so I was conscious of not spoiling their ice cream dates, but not enough people that we couldn’t snap so many different shots with no one else in them. We honestly could have done the entire shoot there no problem! Ice cream just seems to bring out the fun in people. (Maybe it’s the sugar content 😆) Dads relax because they have something to do – which they love! Kids – well, name a child who doesn’t love being given an ice cream, and Mums are just happy to be with their family.
I love personalising sessions to however your family love to spend time together. It’s so much more relaxing than forcing cheesey poses that no one wants to be a part of, you can be a part of your memories instead of being the one behind the camera and they’re just so much FUN!
