We are all about FUN over here at Lizzy Hannaford Photography! That’s why today, I thought I’d share 3 fun ideas for your next family photoshoot in Cairns.
‘My Husband hates photos’. I’ve heard it more times than I can count. While I don’t like to call out Husbands, it is definitely a worry for lots of Mums when it comes to booking in for their professional family photos.
Mums have booked Mothers Day photoshoots so they don’t feel as though they have to bribe their husband to come along. There have been many who have argued on their way to their shoot, and I’ve witnessed how Mums just seem to relax as soon as Dad goes off for a wander during their shoot.
HOWEVER, this can sound like I’m against the poor Dads coming along! Honestly, I’ve always had delightful Dads, but that doesn’t stop it being a common response in my questionnaires.
This is why I’ve introduced activity based family photoshoots. They’re super chilled, fun and there’s no awkward cheesy posing in front of a beach full of people!
Since introducing the activities and chatting back and forward with families about how they spend their spare time together, I’ve been part of some wonderful personalised family photoshoots.
If you need a little nudge to book your next family photoshoot in Cairns, or have no idea where to even start with suggesting ideas for your photoshoot, here are 3 fun ideas for your next family photoshoot in Cairns. (If you need more than 3, you can download my free guide here)
- Ice Cream Date!
There’s no denying it, the tropics is where it’s at if you love ice cream! It’s warm (or hot) all year round, we have an abundance of ice cream and gelato places in Cairns and on the beaches (Palm Cove especially!) I haven’t met a single person yet who doesn’t like ice cream, and if you give a person something to DO during their photoshoot, they feel less awkward.
Does your husband constantly look for things to do during his time off? Men love jobs! So why not make it a fun one? Families come to me for their family photos because they want natural laughs, and they want to remember fun things they do together. I couldn’t think of a better activity to add to your photoshoot!
2. Pool Swims
Again, we live in Far North Queensland. (Or perhaps you are here on holiday, escaping the cooler climates). Many of our houses are blessed with swimming pools, and if you are staying in a hotel or air b&b, you are likely to have one there too. Grab yourself a pair of fun goggles (think funky eyelashes, bluey or even a snorkel!), a giant inflatable and a sprinkler and wait for the giggles! Get Dad to throw the kids up in the air, sit back with a mocktail or let your little one show off their new swimming skills! No pool? How about sprinklers in the backyard, or even a good old hose. Water always brings out laughter and beautiful family connections.
3. Backyard Play
Do you spend lots of time in your backyard? Maybe you have a trampoline or a swing set. Kids love being outside. Even if it rains on the day of your in home family photoshoot, you can head out and splash in the puddles, run out with rainbow umbrellas or just embrace the downpour. Have you ever just let go of perfection and taken your kids out in the rain? I can’t tell you how much fun it is! Kids just love it and they love it when we join in. Trust me on this one!
I hope this gets you excited for your next family photoshoot. Let go of what is perceived as perfection, really think about the personalities of your family and get those memories in photographs forever!
