If I had a dollar for every time I told a Family that toddlers do what they want, but that they would still leave with beautiful photos, I’d be a very rich person!
I remember talking with someone a while ago, who said that once she let go of the expectations she went in with at photography sessions, she was much happier with the results.
When you look on social media, or Pinterest, it’s so easy to go into sessions with a false sense of the ‘behind the scenes’. That your Husband would never have photos taken like that with you because he hates photos, or that you will never have beautiful photos of your babies snuggling you, because they just aren’t cuddly.
What if I told you, that I never meet Dads at sessions who actually WANTED to be part of the experience 😉 100% of the time, it’s Mums just like you that book me. Generally, the Dads come along kicking and screaming! (Sorry Dads!) What if I also told you, that generally, family sessions are mostly toddlers running around, saying no and wanting no part of doing as they are told!
That is what I LOVE about sessions with toddlers. We all go through these crazy seasons with kids. The ‘rule’, if you want to call it that, is to just embrace their spirit. Let them run, let them play, because it’s the in between moments that capture the love and the snuggles. I always find them 😉
It may not be smiling at the camera, everyone behaving, Pinterest swooning goodness. But it’s your Family. The way your Husband looks at you in a way he doesn’t look at anyone else. It’s the way your children run their fingers through your hair when you carry them. The happiness you exude when you chase them, when in the moment it feels like chaos.
I can tell you which photos always end up as profile pictures on social media too. It’s never the smiling at the camera photos. And guess what? Calan left this session I am about to share with you saying he had fun!
I had such a fun evening with Calan, Mel and little Maggie. She reminded me a lot of my eldest daughter. Full of life, knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to say it. Such amazing personality qualities to have. (Plus it takes the guess work out of things. Ha!) After exploring the park for a bit, we headed for the creek! Maggie loves to be in water, and honestly, she would have stayed all night if she could have! Watching her play and splash with her Mummy and Daddy was the best. And you better believe they got soaked! They took it like champs, and honestly were just so happy to be enjoying time together as a family. The added bonus being, I was there to document it!
We were lucky enough to finish our time together with a play in the park.
I’m so excited to share their session with you. Their beautiful little family just radiate happiness and love for each other! And that’s my favourite part of my job xx
