Cairns Family Photographer | The Jago’s Family Session
(Mel has kindly allowed me to share the story of their session, in the hopes it stops other families feeling nervous about how their children will behave during their family session)
I’ve lost count over the years how many times I’ve said to a family that it doesn’t matter how chaotic their family session feels, I never worry, because I always know the in between moments will be perfect!
However, on this day, I most certainly did not feel that way!! I would never say anything to a family on the day, because I wouldn’t want them to feel stressed during their session, unless I really thought things were bad enough that we needed to reschedule (it happens).
This is the 4th or 5th time I’ve photographed Mel’s Family. So they know exactly how I run my sessions and what to expect. Whenever they book in, it’s just like catching up with friends.
On this particular day though, Ryder (aged 4) wanted absolutely nothing to do with me or the photos. It’s pretty common, and after a while, most children warm up once they realise it’s actually quite fun.
We got over 30 minutes into their session and he still wasn’t interested.
Without tooting my own horn, I’d say working with children is my strength. I’ve always done it and have had many foster children live at my home during my years living with my parents. So when I say I’ve seen all sorts of behaviours, I really have!
I won’t lie and say I knew the in between moments would be great, because at the time it felt like we were fighting a losing battle.
I got home, and uploaded my memory cards that night and backed up the photos in a hurry, so that I could see what I was going to be working with.
Well, as you can see from their gallery, IT WAS AMAZING! It has actually become one of my most favourite photoshoots I’ve ever done and look how huge their gallery is! Ryder even looks like he enjoyed himself from start to finish haha!
You honestly can’t predict how little ones are going to be during photoshoots. Especially at sunset, when they are getting tired and hungry, but I really really mean it when I say you will always walk away with an amazing gallery, even if it takes me all night 😉
It was lovely getting to capture their family again this year and I hope you love their photos as much as I do 🙂
