I’m so excited to share this newborn photoshoot with you!
Baby Alira surprised her Mummy and Daddy by coming in to the world 5 weeks early. After just two days post birth, Amanda was discharged from Cairns hospital, but little Alira had to stay.
It’s something I think about a lot. After carrying and growing your baby for almost a year, they become a part of you. After having two healthy babies myself, I just can’t imagine how hard it must be to leave the hospital without your new baby.
Amanda had only amazing things to say about her midwives (she used Cairns’ MGP programme, which I can also say, is absolutely amazing) and the staff in SCBU. While it was heartbreaking having to say goodbye to her precious girl everyday, she felt safe knowing she was in great hands.
Fast forward 6 weeks, and I welcomed the new family of 3 into my home photography studio.
Amanda, who claims she is definitely not the maternal type, and Andrew were so amazing to watch. Both so relaxed and settling into life as new parents.
I think you’ll agree with me that Amanda does not look like someone who recently gave birth and is getting very little sleep! (She said Andrew had been amazing helping her with the night shifts too)
If you were wondering when the best time to book a newborn photoshoot with your own premature baby is, you go by their corrected age (the due date).

I was also able to capture some video of their session too.
It’s amazing how quickly newborns change in the early months. This is what draws me to more natural photography. Tiny little legs, fingers and toes and how curly they are. I really love capturing these special moments for families.
Please join me in congratulating Amanda and Andrew on the birth of Alira Violet, and enjoy my favourites from their session 🙂
